The New England Patriots take on the Green Bay Packers in the most anticipated NFL game on Sunday at the Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wis.
While the Patriots control their destiny in the AFC seedings, this game is a litmus test on whether they can with against the high-powered offense of the Packers on the road.
This is the fourth consecutive games that the Patriots have to meet a division leader. They overwhelmed Denver on November 2 and overpowered Indianapolis 42-20 on November 16. New England also defeated Detroit 34-9 last Sunday.
”It’s not realistic for us to expect to continue to blow teams out like that, or, I don’t want to say blow out, but win by a large margin,” coach Bill Belichick said. ”I can’t really put my finger on what it is. I think it’s a culmination of things and preparation, I think, is at the forefront of that.”
Riding in seven game winning streak, the Patriots have the offensive juggernaut both in the passing and rushing, averaging 39.5 points per game in the last seven games.
Quarterback Tom Brady increased his intensity with 315 passing yards per game, 22 touchdowns against four interceptions. Brady has been controlling the tempo of the game and he was exceptional in those games. Also, tight end Rob Gronkowski has 27 catches for 403 yards and five touchdowns in the last four games.
The Patriots defense will have a daunting tasking in containing the Packers offense. An extra-effort is needed for the Patriots to excel at Lambeau, Field.
Offensively, New England averages 272.5 in passing and 261.8 in rushing. Defensively, New England yields 242.1 in passing and 108.2 in rushing.
The Packers (8-3) want to have this game at home, winning their first five games at Lambeau by an average of 26.8 points. It would be difficult for the opposing teams to overwhelm the Packers.
Though the Packers defeated Chicago and Philadelphia in dominating fashions, they struggled on the road but ended up winning 24-21 over the Vikings. Aaron Rodgers completed 19 of 29 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns against no interceptions. Rodgers has been playing his best as he managed the game well for his team.
Eddie Lacy would play an important role in rushing the football against New England defense. Last week he rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown in 25 attempts.
”He’s a workhorse,” said Rodgers, who faces a New England defense that has five interceptions in the last four games. “We need him in the winter months.”
Offensively, Green Bay averages 261.8 yards in passing and 107 in rushing. Defensively, Green Bay yields 234.4 in passing and 136.7 in rushing.
