Who is the best team in the NFC?
While the San Francisco 49ers are out of contention for the battle of the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks will try to dislodge the Arizona Cardinals, who were on top of the division for many weeks, from their current position.
The Seahawks face the Cardinals on Sunday Night Football in what is considered to be a pivotal game.
Though the Cardinals have earned a spot for the playoff already by having a record of 11-3, a win would put them on top of the entire AFC, which means they will have a bye and possible three wins at the University of Phoenix Stadium to complete the season with a Super Bowl. However, a loss for the Cardinals would only mean that the Seahawks would take control of their destiny, winning the NFC West.
The Cardinals are in difficult but challenging situation. Losing ace quarterback Carson Palmer didn’t affect their game that much but to without backup Drew Stanton, who was sacked and injured in the third quarter against the Rams, it would take the team into another level. Third string quarterback Ryan Lindley will start for the Cardinals as they will try to clinch the home-field advantage. Will the Cardinals be able to survive?
Lindley completed 4 of 10 passes for 30 yards against St Louis in a 12-6 win on December 11. With Lindley at the center, the Cardinals hope that he will connect his passes to his receivers.
Arizona is 7-0 at home and it hopes that it will keep winning, especially this all-important regular season against Seattle. Lindley (1-3) was without touchdowns against seven interceptions in his four career start.
”It’s night and day,” Lindley said. ”The amount I’ve learned and not only grown as a person in two years, but from these guys - B.A. (Arians), from Carson, from Drew. I’m a totally different person and totally different player from that point.”
The Cardinals suffered a 19-3 loss at Seattle on November 23, a day in which the defending super bowl champions had to win to be attached with the Cardinals.
Stanton completed 14 of 26 passes for 149 yards with an interceptions. Aside from that, the Cardinals were limited to 204 yards only.
Offensively, Arizona averages 237.3 yards in passing and 84.4 in rushing. Defensively, Arizona yields 259.6 in passing and 90.4 in rushing.
Riding in a four-game winning streak, the Seahawks have awaken to conquer the division. A win for the Seahawks will allow them to enter into the playoff for the fourth time in five years.
The Seahawks would also gain control of the division in a win over the Cardinals. Without a doubt, the Seahawks will let quarterback Russel Wilson to do the damage through his mobility. In the last game the two teams played, Russel completed 17 of 22 passes for 21 yards and a touchdown, and added 73 yards in 10 attempts.
Offensively, Seattle averages 192.8 in passing and 168.8 in rushing (1st in the NFL). Defensively, Seattle yields 184.3 in passing (1st in the NFL and 88.1 in rushing (5th in the NFL)
The Seahawks will be denying the Cardinals the homecourt advantage with a win on the road. Thus, this is a football game to watch as the two powerful teams in the NFC West will collide.
