The Pittsburgh Steelers meet the Atlanta Falcons in what is considered a crucial NFL football game on Sunday, December 14, at the Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA.
With the playoff berth on the line, the Steelers are just one-half game behind Cincinnati for the AFC North, which most of the teams are vying for a playoff spot. It’s not too late for the Steelers to directly get into the playoff with a strong finish in the three remaining games, including this one.
Pittsburgh (8-5) outlasted Cincinnati, 42-21, on the road last Sunday. Le’Veon Bell rushed for a whopping 235 yards from the scrimmage and three touchdowns to derail Cincinnati 25-0 in the fourth quarter.
Bell would have an opportunity to take advantage on the lack of defense on the rushing offense for the Falcons. While Bell did the damage on the ground, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 25 of 39 passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns. Roethlisberger has to show poise and determination against the defense of the Falcons.
Offensively, Pittsburgh averages 303.2 yards in passing (2nd in the NFL) and 123.8 yards in rushing (8th in the NFL). Defensively, Pittsburgh yields 248.5 in passing and 104.1 in rushing.
While the Atlanta Falcons are first in the NFC South, they are not safe with an identical 5-8 record with New Orleans. Thus, the Falcons need to keep winning games and this game matters so much.
The Falcons suffered a defeat at Green Bay, 43-37, on Monday Night in which quarterback Matt Ryan accumulated 375 yards in passing and four touchdowns, a season high.
Though the Falcons found ways to outscore the Packers 30-12 in the second half, the still lost the game. Julio Jones had 11 catches for 259 yards and a touchdown. Jones had totalled for 448 yards in the past two games.
The Falcons might have the offense to match Pittsburgh, the defense would play the major role in determining the outcome of this football game. The rushing defense of the Falcons must be able to contain Bell.
Offensively, Atlanta averages 284.3 in passing (5th in the NFL) and 96.7 in rushing. Defensively, Atlanta yields 287.8 in passing and 122.9 in rushing.
