While the Cleveland Browns are out of the playoff race, the Carolina Panthers are still alive for the battle in the NFC South.
The Browns take on the Panthers in one of the NFL games on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET at the Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC.
Johnny Manziel was pressured and defended well by the Cincinnati Bengals in his first game last Sunday. Manziel completed 10 of 18 passes for 80 yards with two interceptions in a 30-0 loss to the rivals Bengals. Manziel replaced Brian Hoyer in a hope that the Texas A&M star could make the difference but of no avail.
Manziel suffered a terrible loss and he said it was “very humbling”, as the Browns had only 38 offensive playes, the fewest by any team. Moreover, the Browns were overwhelmed and outgained 347-107 from scrimmage.
The rookie quarterback was sacked three times and he just led his team to cross the 50 yard sline once and with just five first downs. Manziel will take this game as a challenge while his coach Mike Pettine will give him another chance.
Offensively, Cleveland averages 226.5 in passing and 109.6 in rushing. Defensively, Cleveland yields 221.9 in passing and 137.6 in rushing.
The Panthers are not in control of their destiny but the race is wide open in the NFC South. A win in the two remaining games for the Panthers and a loss from New Orleans will bring them in.
Cam Newton will be the starter of the Panthers. Newton has to carry the burden of helping his team back into the playoff.
The four-year quarterback has to be fit to play after a two vehicle wreck that injured his back. Though Derek Anderson led the Panthers to a 19-17 victor over Tampa Bay, coach Ron Rivera decided to go with Newton.
Anderson completed 25 of 40 passes for 277 yards and one touchdown against Tampa Bay last Sunday.
The Panthers will rely on running back Jonathan Stewart who has rushed for 228 yards in the last two weeks. He has to navigate through the defense of the Browns in order to make the difference in this match.
Offensively, Carolina averages 228.9 in passing and 116.4 in rushing. Defensively, Carolina yields 234 in passing and 117.5 in rushing.
