The Arkansas State Red Wolves will be facing the Toledo Rockets next Year in the 2015 GoDaddy Bowl that will take place on January 4, 9:00 P.M. ET at the Ladd- Peebles Stadium, Alabama.
The Red Wolves will be under their new coach Blake Anderson. The Red Wolves became eligible in the GoDaddy bowl when they routed South Alabama, 45-10. In their last game, Arkansas completed a come-from behind victory over Utah on September 20 in a thrilling overtime with the final score 21-14. The Red Wolves took advantage the pass interference penalty to tie the game by a touchdown. With three seconds left Artez Brown blocked the 38-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.
Arkansas State’s offense was one of the best in the Sun Belt Conference. The Red Wolves quarterback Fredi Knighten had passed 2,874 yards for 19 touchdowns. He had rushed in for 775 yards and scored 11.He also had seven interceptions. This season, Arkansas State’s running back Michael Gordon had 13 touchdowns.
Defense was a concern with the Arkansas State. The Red Wolves give up a 419 rushing yards, 521 total yards and eight rushing touchdowns in their game against the Louisiana-Lafayette. In their final six games, Arkansas State allowed 35 points per game.
Meanwhile, the Toledo Rockets were one of the best teams in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) this year. The Rockets came up short to win the division title game in the MAC West against Northern Illinois.
Toledo was a high scoring team in MAC. The Rockets’ offense were outstanding, they focused on their strong running game and finished their season averaging 34 points per game. Toledo’s sophomore running back Kareem Hunt rushed in 1360 yards on 173 carries with 11 touchdowns. Toledo had a 52 points output against Eastern Michigan.
However, the Rockets were also giving up points to their opponents. Toledo allowed 49 points in their loss to Missouri and 58 points against Cincinnati.
