The Oregon Ducks take on Florida State Seminoles in the Rose Bowl 2015 presented by Northwestern Mutual at Rose Bowl Pasadena, California on January 1 at 5:00 PM ET.
The high-powered offense of the Ducks through running back Marcus Mariota will be featured to match with struggling defense of the Seminoles. Mariota, who was invited for the Heisman Trophy presentation, will meet former Heisman winner Winston in what is considered by many as a battle with gigantic proportion.
Mariota completed 25 of 38 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns, and added 33 yards and three scores on the ground in a 51-13 win over Arizona in the Pac-12 conference title game. He exerted his effort flawlessly as he helped his team to avenge against the Wildcats, who won in their first meeting this season.
While Mariota almost does everything, Royce Freeman rushed 21 times for 114 yards. The balanced offensive attacks have the capability to derail the defense of Florida State.
Darren Carrington and Charles Nelson will be part of the offensive juggernaut from the Ducks. Carrington had 126 yards and one touchdown while Nelson added 104 yards.
The Ducks have been dismantling their opponents by winning lopsided games. The offense would be tested against the defending champions’ defense.
Offensively, Oregon averages 546 yards per game (3rd in the FBS) and 46 points per game (3rd in the FBS).
Despite of close games that almost shattered their hopes away, the Florida State Seminoles entered into the college football playoff because of their undefeated status (13-0). Winning in small margins for Florida State sometimes bothered critics and even the selection committee as the Seminoles were even ranked fourth.
Winston completed 21 of 30 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-35 victory over Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship. Winston didn’t run that much with only one attempt. His poise was again tested and it resulted to a victory.
For the Seminoles, Dalvin Cook rushed for 177 yards in 31 catches to carry the load on the ground.
Rashad Greene caught seven times for 123 yards and two touchdowns and Nick O’Leary added 97 yards in three catches. These players will be needed to launch offensive attacks for the Seminoles.
Florida State has the defense to topple Oregon. Florida State yields 378 yards and allows 23 points per game.
