The Alabama Crimson Tide inch closer into the first college football playoff showdown as they face the Missouri Tigers in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Georgia Dome, Atlanta Georgia.
With a playoff berth on the line, Alabama would love to dominate Missouri, the SEC East winner. A win for Alabama will allow a representative from the powerful conference but a loss will be a nightmare for the entire SEC.
Alabama (11-1) has the opportunity to keep the tradition of going into the finals, from SEC.
”I think we have an outstanding league and we have a lot of good teams and the fact that we play each other and end up beating each other probably hurts a little bit,” Tide coach Nick Saban said Sunday. ”I think some of the teams in our division are really, really good teams and I’m sure there are some other really good teams out there that I have not seen.
Alabama remains No. 1 in the college football playoff rankings released by the selection committee last Tuesday. The Crimson Tide displayed offensive juggernaut in overpowering Auburn, 55-44, on Saturday.
Blake Sims completed 20 of 27 passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns against three interceptions. Sims consistently found Amari Cooper, who caught 13 times for 224 yards and three touchdowns. With the offense of Alabama being handled by Sims, it is likely that Cooper will be the primary target this coming Saturday.
In the rushing offense of Alabama, T.J. Yeldon rushed for 127 yards in 19 attempts and two touchdowns. with the rushing offense of the Crimson Tide, it would be difficult for the Missouri to win.
Offensively, Alabama averages 282.6 yards in passing and 206.8 in rushing. Defensively, Alabama yields 219.7 in passing and 92.7 in rushing.
The Missouri Tigers (10-2) would love to pull off the upset. Missouri lost to Auburn last year in the SEC title game.
For Missouri, this is the fifth division title since 2007 in the Big 12 and SEC, however, the program hasn’t won a conference championship.
”When you’re that potent offensively, when you can play defense at that high, consistent level, that’s certainly problematic for anybody that’s going to play against them,” Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said.
Missouri defeated Arkansas, 21-14, last week to enter to win the SEC East. Maty Mauk completed 25 of 42 passes for 265 yards one touchdown against one interception. Bud Sasser had 127 yards in nine receptions while Jimmie Hunt added 61 yards and a touchdown in five receptions.
Offensively, Missouri averages 189.9 yards in passing and 176 in rushing. Defensively, Missouri yields 204.1 in passing and 127 in rushing.
