The Texas A&M Aggies look to shake off the dust as they face the No. 2 Auburn Tigers, after losing three big SEC West games.
The Aggies surprised the college football fans at the opener when Kenny Hill threw for 511 yards and three touchdowns. However, coach Kevin Sumlin this week announced that he suspended Hill two games for violating team rules and policies.
Texas A&M overpowered Louisiana Monroe 21-16 on Saturday. With Kyle Allen as the starter, he threw for 106 yards in 13 of 28 passes and a touchdown. He was sacked three times and intercepted once. It was an awful display of offensive executions for the Aggies as they were limited to 243 total yards.
Texas A&M averages 30 sacks which is tied sixth in the league, while Myles Garrett had 11 of those sacks.
Offensively, Texas A&M averages 335.4 yards in passing and 150 in rushing. Defensively, Texas A&M yields 236.4 yards in passing and 177.8 in rushing.
The Auburn Tigers are on their way to another magical season, after stealing a game against Ole Miss in a 35-31 victory last Saturday.
Junior linebacker Kris Frost saved the game for Auburn when he tackled Laquon Treadwell at the one yard line for a possible touchdown by Ole Miss, instead, the receiver fumbled.
“I talked to the team before the game and basically I just told them that this is a playoff game for us,” the junior linebacker said. “From here on, every game is a playoff game for us.
The Tigers will have a shot at the college football playoff if they keep on winning games. Though they don’t control their destiny in winning the SEC West, they can still be considered by the college football playoff selection committee. Currently, Auburn is No. 3 in the country, while No. 3 also in the SEC West.
Quarterback Nick Marshall completed 15 of 22 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns against one interception, and added 50 yards and two scores on the ground. He brought Auburn as the first team to go over 20 points over Ole Miss.
Cameron Artis-Payne could play the major role in maintaining the ground game. He rushed for 143 yards in 27 attempts and a touchdown last week.
“Our guys really believe that they’re going to win games if they’re close,” coach Gus Malzahn said. “It’s all about the players. They’ve done it the last two years in the most bizarre ways. There’s a lot of champions in that locker room.”
Offensively, Auburn averages 220.6 yards in passing and 277.5 in rushing. Defensively, Auburn yields 254.4 in passing and 124.3 in rushing.
