The Seattle Seahawks take on the Kansas City Chiefs in one of the most interesting NFL games on Sunday at the Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO.
Both teams have 6-3 record and the winner of this game will take the momentum to get a playoff berth. The Seahawks are battling for the top spot in the NFC West but they have so two major obstacles this season, with the Cardinals and 49ers vying for playoff spots also.
Obviously, the Seahawks have changed strategy after six games. Seattle had added more ground game plays in the past three games in which it produced a three-game winning streak. From 28.3 rushing attempts in the first six games, the Seahawks increased it to 36.3 in the last three games. Marshawn Lynch rushed for 140 yards and four touchdowns in a win 38-17 over the Giants last Sunday. In that game, the Seahawks rushed 45 times.
Quarterback Russell Wilson accumulated 107 yards and a touchdown on the ground to help the Seahawks totalled 350 yards. Wilson has been consistent but it removes some loads on his shoulders if Lynch is playing well.
”We’ve been in a mode where it’s really been focusing on the running game and trying to make sure we get that done,” coach Pete Carroll said on Monday. ”I think it’s worked out. I think it’s helped us. I think we’re more like we’ve been and we like it. We’re going to keep going.”
Offensively, Seattle averages 194.4 yards in passing and 170.9 in rushing, first in the NFL. Defensively, Seattle yields 227.2 yards in passing and 79.8 in rushing, fourth in the league.
Kansas City (6-3) is chasing the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. The Chiefs defeated Buffalo last week to a 17-13 come from behind win. The Chiefs struggled to gather yards as they finished for only 278 total yards on the offense.
”These wins are different, that’s for sure,” Smith said. “I think it’s a different type of confidence you get when you win games like this and you keep that momentum going. There’s certainly going to be a lot for us to look at and how we can grow from that.”
Alex Smith completed 17 of 29 passes for 177 yards and added 25 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Running back Jamaal Charles added 98 yards in 15 attempts.
Kansas City understands the importance of this game. With everything on the line, the Chiefs need to win to boost their chances to be in the playoff.
Offensively, Kansas City averages 195.6 in passing and 135.8 in rushing, fifth in the NFL. Defensively, Kansas City yields 205.3 in passing, first in the NFL, and 115.6 in rushing.
