The Michigan State Spartans host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in one of the football games on Saturday at 12:00 PM ET at the Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, MI.
After losing 49-37 to Ohio State two weeks ago, Michigan looks to bounce back and to stay in the competition for the college football rankings. Michigan State dropped into No. 11 from No. 8 in the newly released College football playoff rankings.
The Spartans (8-2) pulled off a 37-15 victory at Maryland last Saturday to remain in contention for the Big 10 East title.
“Anytime you have a difficult outing, to come back and play extremely well reaffirms your credibility as a football player and as a football unit,” Dantonio said. “That’s what we wanted to do, and I think we were able to do that. We sort of returned to who we are.”
Running back Jeremy Langford rushed for 138 yards against Maryland and reached his 14th streak 100-plus yard rushing performance in a conference opponent.
Offensively, Michigan State averages 268.1 in passing and 245.9 in rushing. Defensively, Michigan yields 201.8 in rushing and 103.7 in rushing.
Rutgers (6-4) would love to continue winning after beating Indiana 45-23 last week through the powerful offensive attacks of Josh Hicks and Robert Martin, who combined for 197 yards and four touchdowns in 31 carries.
The Scarlet Knights will have to test the rushing defense of Michigan State which yields an average of 103.7 yards per game.
“I’m looking forward to it, because like I said before, I want to compete against the best of the best,” Martin said. “So why not Michigan State who’s ranked (No. 8 against the run) in the country and perform and help my team get the W.”
Offensively, Rutgers averages 228.6 in passing and 153.5 in rushing. Defensively, Rutgers yields 226 yards in passing and 201.8 in rushing.
