No. Oregon Ducks push through firmly for a spot in the college football playoff as they face the Utah Utes on Satuday at 10:00 PM ET at the Rice Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT.
With a chance to remain at the top four, the Oregon Ducks must win all their upcoming games, including the Utes, who are playing at the highest level lately. If Oregon wins, it clinches the Pac 12 North title, and has a shot at the Pac 12 conference championships.
Riding in a four game winning streak, the high-octane offense of the Ducks is back and alive to dominate the Utes.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota was key in a 44-21 victory over Utah in the most recent matchup on November 16, 2013. He was 19 of 26 for 288 yards with three TDs and was sacked three times.
Mariota completed 19 of 31 passes for 257 yards and two touchdown, and added 86 yards and two scores on the ground. The mobile quarterback would likely be dominating this game again, unless Utah does something about him defensively.
The only blemish on the record of Oregon was the loss to Arizona on October 2 at home, 31-24. However, the Ducks have recovered from that terrible upset and they are now in control of their destiny.
“Particularly after the Arizona game it’s been more competitive, a better sense of urgency,” coach Mark Helfrich said. “All those things, win or lose, you try to impart on these guys of getting better in everything we do. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s adversity in the form of a loss that wakes everybody up.
Coming off from 19-16 defeat in the hands of Arizona State, the Utah Utes hope to get back and to even beat the Ducks. The offense of Utah was limited to only 241 yards, a season-low.
Travis Wilson completed 12 of 22 passes for only 57 yards and added 44 on the ground. The bright spot for the Utes was the 146 yards rushing performance of Devontae Booker.
Offensively, Utah averages 175.3 yards in passing and 198.1 in rushing. Defensively, Utah yields 257.3 yards in passing and 128 in rushing. Utah needs to start early to put pressure on Mariota to have a chance to win this game.
