The Mississippi State Bulldogs host the Vanderbilt Commodores in one of the most anticipated college football on Saturday Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field, Starkville, MS.
Mississippi State (9-1) remains to be in the chase for the college football playoff rankings as it earned the fourth place in the recently released standings on Tuesday, despite losing 25-20 to Alabama last Saturday.
Quarterback Dak Prescott completed 27 of 48 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns but with three interceptions. Sadly, those three interceptions were inside the 30 of Alabama that had altered the outcome of the game.
”They’re all so different,” coach Dan Mullen said about the interceptions . ”Every one of them is such a different play and different things going on. It’s hard to group any of them together.”
Prescott also added 28 yards on the ground in the losing effort over Alabama. His performance was not bad at all as he played with such energy, except for those picks.
Mississippi State hopes to stay in contention for the college football rankings as it tries to win all the games left. They still have an outside shot of winning the SEC West.
Offensively, Mississippi State averages 269.5 in passing and 243.2 in rushing. Defensively, Mississippi State yields 291.6 in passing and 126.4 in rushing.
Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason still believes Prescott is one of the nation’s elite quarterbacks. The former Stanford defensive coordinator even compared Prescott to ex-Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck.
”The one thing you never see from (Prescott) is frustration, and that’s a true sign of a competitor,” Mason said on CBS. ”I never saw Andrew Luck get frustrated. When you see a guy like that, they’ve got ice water in their veins.”
Vanderbilt wants to bounce back after losing to Florida, 34-10 on November 8. The Commodores turned the ball over four times that affected their chances.
Offensively, Vanderbilt averages 182.1 in passing and 114.4 in rushing. Defensively, Vanderbilt yields 230.9 in passing and 175.2 in rushing.
