The Arizona Cardinals host the Detroit Lions in what is considered to be the battle for the supremacy in the NFC on Sunday, November 14, at 4:25 PM, at the University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ.
With all the opposing teams eyeing to beat the best team in the NFL, the Arizona Cardinals want to show forth to the world that they are able to keep winning despite of losing ace quarterback Carson Palmer for the entire season.
Palmer tore his ACL on Sunday against the Rams, just days after signing a three-year $50 million contract with $20.5 million guaranteed. Because of the new development, coach Bruce Arians believe that they can be in the Super Bowl without the injured quarterback.
Arians calls on backup quarterback Drew Stanton, who was drafted by Detroit in 2007. Stanton has to carry the Cardinals into the promise land and he must take the responsibilities of a leader.
“It’s an opportunity I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” Stanton said. “It’s been eight years that I’ve been working toward this, so I don’t take it lightly. It comes under unfortunate circumstances, without a doubt, but it’s also part of my job description.”
As a reliever, Stanton completed 3 of 5 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown last week. He understands his role and his experience might be the key for him to deliver especially when the game is on the line.
Offensively, Arizona averages 247.3 yards in passing and 83.6 in rushing. Defensively, Arizona yields 274.2 yards in passing and 78.6 in rushing (3rd in the NFL).
Detroit is a serious contender in the NFC which has the best defense in the NFL, allowing only 283.4 yards per game. The Lions contained Miami to 228 yards to capture a 20-16 win. Without a doubt, the Lions can tame the offense of the Cardinals.
“It’s a journey, and we’re still on that journey,” coach Jim Caldwell said. ”We’ve got the team with the best record in the National Football League coming up. You better get focused in on them quickly.
Matthew Stafford completed 25 of 40 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns against an interception. He has been playing well in the recent games and he has been finding his receivers.
Calvin Johnson had 113 yards and a touchdown in seven receptions, while Golden Tate added 109 yards in 11 catches for the Lions.
Offensively, Detroit averages 262.3 yards in passing and 77.8 in rushing. Defensively, Detroit yields 212.1 in passing (3rd in the NFL) and 71.3 in rushing (2nd in the NFL).
