Running back Todd Gurley is back after being suspended for four games relating to his admission of taking more than $3,000 over a two-year period for signing autographs. He played significantly well in the first five games that he played by compiling 773 yards and eight touchdowns.
While Georgia is still in contention, the Bulldogs went on to win three of four games that Gurley was suspended. As replacement for Gurley, freshman Nick Chubb did his job in rushing for 671 yards and five touchdowns in those four games.
Coming off from a lopsided 63-31 victory over Kentucky last Saturday, Chubb rushed for 170 yards and one touchdown in 13 attempts. Surely, Chubb was so effective with the system and Georgia would be able to alternate these two running backs.
Hutson Mason completed 13 of 16 passes for 174 yards and four touchdowns to help his team with his efficiency. Without a doubt, Mason would be the key against Auburn defense, especially when it comes to the last possession.
Offensively, Georgia averages 196.9 in passing and 256.3 in rushing. Defensively, Georgia yields 186 in passing and 152 in rushing.
“It’s going to be tough now. They’ve got two backs that can start for anybody,” Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson said. ”Going back and looking at their early season films, Gurley’s like a time bomb. When is he going to get that 95-yard kickoff? When is he going to hit that 40-yard run? When is he going to catch that 35-yard screen pass?”
The Auburn Tigers want to bounce back after a surprising defeat to Texas A&M, 41-38, at home last Saturday. The Tigers almost pulled off a come-from-behind victory but ended up into a fumbled snap in the last minute of the game. The breaks of the game didn’t go to the Tigers, unlike what happened to them last season.
Because of the loss last week, the Tigers are out of the top four of the college football rankings. They are tied for third in the SEC West.
Nick Marshall completed 15 of 21 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort.
Auburn’s running back Curtis Artis-Payne is expected to do the damage. He accumulated 221 yards and two touchdowns in 30 attempts on the ground.
Offensively, Auburn averages 220.4 yards in passing and 286.4 in rushing. Defensively, Auburn yields 256.9 yards in passing and 129.4 in rushing.
