The Arizona Cardinals hope to totally unseat the Seattle Seahawks as the top team in the competitive NFC West on Sunday’s NFL schedule at the CenturyLink Field, Seattle, Wash.
Being considered as the best team in the NFL, Arizona (9-1) wants to show forth to the country that it can overpower the defending Super Bowl Champions. The Cardinals trampled Seattle in 2013, 17-10, ending the 14-game winning streak.
Arizona had a 10-6 record last season but failed to enter into the playoff. This season, the Cardinals are built to win and to dominate the AFC West.
“The belief system that everything that we’re doing is working solidified itself up there last year,” coach Bruce Arians said about last year’s matchup in Seattle. “You have to build that camaraderie and what it takes as a team. Each team doesn’t buy into that always, and some guys don’t buy into it. This one has.”
Riding in a six-game winning streak since losing to Denver in Week five, the Cardinals are contenders and they have a chance to get the best record in the NFC.
While it is inevitable, Carson Palmer suffered a season ending injury in Week 10, allowing Drew Stanton to be his replacement as the quarterback.
Stanton completed 21 of 32 passes for 306 yards with two touchdowns against two interceptions to lead the Cardinals into a 14-6 victory. He gained those yards against the best defense in the NFL.
He spread his passes to John Browns (69 yards), Michael Floyd (54 yards), Robert Hughes (49), John Carlson (37) and Larry Fitzgerald (33).
Offensively, Arizona averages 253.2 yards in passing and 79.8 in rushing. Defensively, Arizona yields 263.2 in passing and 80.5 in rushing.
Seattle (6-4) is on the verge of losing the grip of the NFC West. The Seahawks offense has been struggling lately as it reached 200 yards in passing only twice this season.
The defending Super Bowl champions have relied heavily on the rushing prowess of Marshawn Lynch and quarterback Russell Wilson. However, the Seahawks need the passing game to defy the defense of the opponents.
“These guys are flying high and we have to see if we can find a way to stop them and score on these guys and then we’ll take it to the next one,” coach Pete Carroll said about Arizona. “I’m really excited about the way this thing sets up and I think most people should be with all of the drama still out there about the division.”
Wilson completed 20 of 32 passes for 178 yards and two touchdown, adding 71 yards on the ground in a losing effort to Kansas City, 24-20. Lynch had 124 yards on the ground but the effort didn’t produce a win.
Offensively, Seattle averages 191.8 in passing and 174.2 in rushing (1st in the NFL). Defensively, Seattle yields 215.3 in passing (3rd in the NFL) and 90.8 in rushing (7th in the NFL).
