The San Francisco 49ers face the New York Giants in what is considered to be an important game in the NFL because the loser would have a difficult time catching up for the playoff race.
In the past three years, the SF 49ers were in the AFC Championship game, but this season could be more difficult as they have a 5-4 record, third in the NFC West.
The 49ers outlasted New Orleans, 27-24, last week to provide a lift on their chances of getting into the playoffs. Collin Kaepernick completed 14 of 32 passes for 210 yards an a touchdown. Kaepernick didn’t force the issue as he played with poise when the game was on the line. He also added 24 yards on the ground.
In the receiving end, Anquan Boldin caught five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown, while Michael Crabtree added 62 yards in three receptions. The passing game would be needed to beat the Giants, but the rushing offense with Frank Gore is critical in this match.
Offensively, San Francisco averages 221.7 yards in passing and 122.2 in rushing. Defensively, San Francisco yields 215.2 in passing (5th) and 91.2 in rushing (7th in the NFL).
The New York Giants are not out of the playoff. It is still mathematically possible but the Giants have to start winning this game. Actually, they have to win all their remaining games, hoping that it would fall into their favor with the help of other teams.
After losing to the Seahawks, 38-17, last week, the Giants have to elevate their offense as well as their defense. Manning completed 29 of 44 passes for 283 yards and one touchdown. However, the highest rusher on that day was Andre Williams who had 33 yards in 13 attempts. The rushing offense of the Giants needs to improve.
Odell Beck must assert himself in the receiving end to destroy the defense of the 49ers. Beck had 108 yards in nine receptions last week.
Offensively, New York averages 239.2 in passing and 104.2 in rushing. Defensively, New York yields 260.2 in passing and 144.7 in rushing.
