The Utah Utes take on the Oregon State Beavers in a Pac-12 conference college football on Thursday Night at the Reser Stadium Corvallis, OR.
Fresh from a surprising victory, 30-28, to then No. 8 UCLA on October 14, Utah wants to take care of its business in order to climb into higher rankings in the AP Poll.
The Utes utilized the ground game in upsetting UCLA. Devontae Booker rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Kendal Thompson added 83 yards, while completing 10 of 13 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. Thompson played as a replacement to starter Travis Wilson.
“The team did some good work today with a lot of energy and tempo, but still need the next two days to complete preparing for the Oregon State. Indicated that junior linebacker Jacoby Hale is improving physically each day and doing more. He’s making good progress and is a good, explosive player. We’re excited about getting him back eventually.”, coach Kyle Whittingham said two days ago at Utah Utes official website.
Because of the performance of Thompson, Whittingham probably might be starting him. The Utes need to have a quick start to match the firepower of the Beavers.
This is the best start of the Utes since 2010 when the open up 8-0. Last year, they lost to the Oregon State on a Thursday Night. The Utes have all the capabilities to end up victorious in this game.
However, the Utes have to handle quarterback Sean Mannion, who had 443 yards and five touchdowns on September 14.
Offensively, Utah averages 217.8 yards in passing and 202.2 yards in rushing. Defensively, Utah yields 263.4 yards in passing and 113.4 in rushing.
The Oregon State Beavers would love to take the challenge against the much improved defense of the Utes. Oregon State defeated Colorado 36-31 on October 4 through the combined running offense of Terron Ward and Storm Woods who both totalled for 171 yards and three touchdowns.
“Looked like good balanced football and that will help us as we go forward,” coach Mike Riley said. “I was really proud of how we fought. You always want better execution and all of that stuff but I think our kids battled, their kids battled and we’re glad to win.
“It feels a lot better to be 4-1 than 3-2.”
Offensively, Oregon State averages 260.8 yards in passing and 132.4 in rushing. Defensively, Oregon State yields 198.8 yards in passing and 132.8 in rushing.
