With the current rise of the Houston Texans, the AFC South has become one of the most competitive divisions of the NFL.
The Houston Texans take on the Indianapolis Colts in the Thursday Night Football game, which serves to break the 3-2 tied record of both teams. While the Colts dominated their meetings, 20-4, the Texans are very different team this season with Arian Foster and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Indianapolis both won their games in 2013, 27-24 on November 3 and 25-3 on December 15, in which the Colts entered the playoffs while the Texans failed.
Riding in a three-game winning streak, the Colts are becoming dangerous in offense as they reached to the top of the NFL. Andrew Luck enormously provides all the possibilities when he takes the snaps. He completed 32 of 49 passes for 312 yards and one touchdown against the vaunted defense of Baltimore in a 20-17 victory last Sunday. Luck also had a rushing touchdown to help his team.
The rise of Luck as one of the premiere quarterbacks in the NFL is not surprising at all. He was drafted first and he was expected to throw with accuracy. Tonight, Luck would become the second fastest quarterback to hit 10,000 marks in 38 games, second to Kurt Warner who reached in 36 games.
In the passing offense of the Colts, Reggie Wayne will always be part of the flow and Ty Hilton will be a great addition if he plays well. Surely, Luck would rely on his top wide receivers to do the damage on the air.
While Indiana would use the passing offense, Houston would utilize the ground game through Foster. It was the ground game that brought them into the playoffs in 2011 and 2012 seasons and they would use Foster to extremely do his part to overpower the defense of the Colts.
Foster had 157 yards and two touchdowns in 23 runs against the tight defense of Dallas last Sunday. He might get higher numbers as the Colts do not have that running defense to contain him.
Aside from Foster, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has to explode in the passing game so that the offense of the Texans would not be one dimensional. A balanced-offense would leave them the chance to compete and to have a shootout against the Colts.
