Before swing back to Kansas City, the San Francisco Giants want to have a 3-2 advantage as they face the Royals in the Game 5 of the World Series at 8:00 PM ET at the AT&T Park on Sunday.
SF Giants ace pitcher Madison Bumgarner seeks to put his team within a win for a third World Series title in five years. The KC Royals will have James Shields on the mound to take control of the game, in spite of losing Game One.
Shields hasn’t live up to the expectations of the Royals in the playoff so far. He has been the ace pitcher of the Royals since he was traded from Tampa Bay before last season. He grabbed 27 regular season wins and a 3.18 ERA. But he is not that type of a Big Game pitcher, contrary to that of Bumgarner’s.
“It’s just kind of one of those things as a baseball player you’ve got to really hone in (your emotions),” Shields said. “I’ve been on this stage before, and I know exactly what to feel like when I’m out there. I think this time around I’m not going to be as amped up and (will) just try to keep my emotions in check.”
Shields played six playoff games with a record of 1-3 and 8.26 ERA since 2010. However, he can erase all thoses memories if he can provide a victory to the Royals in Game 5.
On the other hand, Bumgarner has a better record with 3-1 and a 1.40 ERA in five playoff starts.
“It sounds like I’m trying to run the team, which I’m certainly not,” Bumgarner said about putting himself to start on Game 4. “It doesn’t make any sense to me why that would happen. I never said anything to anyone about anything. We knew that was an option, and I prepared where I would be ready for Game 4 or 5 or any of them. That’s just ridiculous.”
Bumgarner is expected to tame the batters of the Royals and he has a chance to put the Giants on top of the series. In Game 4, the SF Giants exploded through Hunter Pence who went on 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Moreover, Pablo Sandoval and Joe Panik played great by driving two runs each.
