No. 2 Florida State takes on No. 25 Louisville on Thursday’s college football showdown at the Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, KY.
The Seminoles season is being battered by players’ controversies. This week, running back Karlos Williams has been investigated for an alleged battery incident and he was rumored to be suspended. However, coach Jimbo Fisher refuted the suspension.
Surely, Florida State needs the presence of Williams to balance the offense. Williams leads the Seminoles with 82 carries, 378 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
In order for the Seminoles to be part of the college football playoff, they must win all their games. They might not get into the top four with a one loss record because of the strength of their schedule is a low comparison to other one loss teams. In connection with this, the Seminoles are about to be tested
by the Cardinals.
“They’re one of the top defenses in the country,” Fisher said. “They play the run well, play the pass. Create a lot of turnovers.”
Florida State has been winning tight games lately, including the game against Notre Dame that went into 31-27 score. Without a doubt, Jameis Winston was responsible in taking care of the late drives that resulted into touchdowns. Winston completed 23 of 31 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns on October 18 against the Fighting Irish.
”We don’t have anything to prove to anybody,” said Winston, who is third in the nation in completion percentage at 70.6. ”We’ve just got to keep playing and hopefully things will go our way. But one thing we are consistently proving is that we are winners.”
Offensively, Florida State averages 316.7 yards in passing and 125.9 in rushing. Defensively, Florida yields 227.9 yards in passing and 146.6 in rushing.
Louisville (6-2, 4-2 ACC) leads the FBS in total defense by yielding 245.8 yards per game and rushing defense with 68.8 . Furthermore, the Cardinals are second in interceptions with 15.
Quarterback Will Gardner will lead the way for the Cardinals against the Seminoles. Gardner will have DeVante Parker as his primary target. Parker had 138 yards in nine catches against the NC State.
On the ground, Michael Dyer would lead to dismantle the defense of the Seminoles. He rushed for 173 yards against the Wolfpack.
