A monumental collision is about to take place in the NFL as the Dallas Cowboys face the Houston Texans on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET, at the AT & T Stadium, Arlington, Texas.
The Cowboys do not rely heavily on the shoulders of quarterback Tony Romo as they have found the running game as one of the weapons. Averaging 165 yards per game on the ground, the Cowboys would be difficult to beat.
DeMarco Murray leads the way on the ground for the Cowboys. He already accumulated 534 yards and five TDs in the last four games. He became part of NFL record, joining Jim Brown, O.J. Simpson and Emmitt Smith as the only players with at least 100 yards and at least one TD in each of his first four games.
Surely, Murray’s average of 5.4 yards per attempt would bring fruitful plays for the Cowboys. He dismantled the defense of the Saints last Sunday when he rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in a win, 38-17.
While the rushing offense of the Cowboys played significant role in winning games, the passing game of Romo has become efficient when he completed 22 of 29 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns.
Offensively, Dallas averages 218.8 yards in passing and 165 in rushing. Defensively, Dallas yields 271.2 yards per game in passing and 108.5 yards in rushing.
The Texans (3-1) have another great start in the 2014 season. They have been successful in winning games because of their defense, which leads in the NFL with nine takeaways. In last week’s game over the Bills, the defense showed up when J.J. Watt returned an interception of 80 yards for a touchdown that brought them the victory, 23-17.
Coach Bill O’Brien installed the offense with the priority of running. In the Texans offense, they average 40 plays while racking up 151.5 yards in the two games they won.
“We have to keep making sure that we stick the run in there. We can’t just throw it 55 or 60 times a game and get away with that,” coach Bill O’Brien said. “We’ve got to figure out how to run the ball better from a coaching standpoint and from a playing standpoint.”
Offensively, Houston averages 225.2 yards in passing and 114.8 yards in rushing. Defensively, Houston yields 237.5 yards in passing and 130.2 yards in rushing per game.
