The Kansas City Royals face the Baltimore Orioles in Game 4 of the MLB ALCS Playoff on Wednesday at 4:07 PM at the Kauffman Stadium. The Royals (3-0) want to finish the series to enter into the World Series.
This is the first time for the Royals to be back in the World Series since 1985 if they could afford to beat the Orioles. On the other hand, the Orioles need to take one game at a time as history is against them, by attempting to be the second of 34 teams to get out of 0-3 hole.
Jason Vargas will take the mound for the Kansas City Royals, hoping that the pitcher would be able to stay focus until the seventh inning. The last time he startes against the Angels in Game 4 of the ALDS.
Vargas (0-0, 3.00 ERA) tamed the Angels to two runs and three hits in six innings as the Royals won 3-2 in 11 inning on October 2.
“I feel fine. Definitely rested,” said Vargas, who’s 3-10 with a 5.10 ERA in his career with at least six days between starts. “Had some bullpen sessions and everything feels fine. I’ve never had this much rest. So I couldn’t give you a good guideline on what I’ll be looking for. But I’ll be ready to go and be ready to try to execute my game plan and execute pitches.”
Coming off from a 2-1 victory Tuesday, the Royals understand what it takes to win. The starting pitcher must carry them for their bullpen to work with ease. Kasas City bullpen have 1.59 ERA and .175 batting average in the last 16 games.
Baltimore will start Miguel Gozalez who last pitched on September 28. Gonzalez had 4.53 ERA in nine starts with six-plus day’s rest this season.
“It’s been two weeks, but I’ve been preparing myself to stay focused and I’ve had a couple of bullpens and a live BP,” Gonzalez said. “So I’m excited. I’m excited to go out there and give my team a chance to win a ballgame.”
Gonzalez has to contain the offense of the Kansas City Royals to force a Game 5.
