Manila, Philippines - San Beda College takes on Arellano University in the NCAA Finals Game One of the 90th edition of the NCAA men’s tournament on October 20, at 4:00 PM at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The San Beda Red Lions entered into the NCAA Finals for the ninth consecutive times, while aiming for their fifth straight title. This shows that the Red Lions have a consistent basketball program ready to compete against everybody, and it happened to be the Arellano University.
San Beda outlasted Perpetual Help, 81-75, in the Semifinals through the high-octane performances of Anthony Semerad, who had 18 points, and Baser Amer, who scored 17 points. Ola Adeogun added 13 points and Art Dela Cruz compiled 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Arellano Chiefs pulled off a 72-65 victory over JRU Heavy Bombers on October 15 to get into the NCAA Finals. Dioncee Holts scored 22 points and Levi Hernandez added 12 to lead the Chiefs offense.
San Beda College and Arellano University have met twice in the regular season, splitting the games. On July 12, the Red Lions got the most of the game by winning 90-81, while on October 4, the Chiefs captured the win, 78-76.
In their first match, Amer scored 18 points and Dela Cruz added 17, while had Adeogun 13 points as the Red Lions pounded the ball inside. Hernandes led the Chiefs with 20 points.
The second match was a totally different ball game as the Chiefs played with toughness. Ray Salcedo delivered the winning basket with 0.7 left. Holts had 19 points and Kieth Agovidia added 17 points for the Chiefs. On the other hand, the top three scorers of San Beda were Adeogun 23, Amer 18, and Dela Cruz 15.
