Virginia Tech faces Georgia Tech in an ACC Coast football showdown on Saturday at 12:00 PM ET at the Lane Stadium,Blacksburg, VA.
After beating the Buckeyes in Week 2, the Hokies (2-1) were stunned by East Carolina, 28-21, in last Saturday’s game. The Hokies started slow by allowing East Carolina to score the first 21 points, though they tied the game at 21.
The good news would be that the Hokies have a quality quarterback Michael Brewer, who completed 30 of 56 passes for 298 yards, three touchdowns against two interceptions. Brewer connected his passes to Cam Philips and Isaiah Ford to rally the entire Hokies for a possible comeback.
One of the problems of the Hokies against ECU was the defense, especially against Cam Worthy, who caught six passes for 222 yards. Virginia Tech must make care of the defense over the Yellow Jackets to have a chance to win this game.
Moreover, the Hokies need to have the running game going through Marshawn Williams, who rushed for 74 yards in 17 carries over ECU. This removes some of the burdens on the shoulder of Brewer.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-0) try to stay undefeated through their offensive attacks on the ground. With dual-threat quarterback Justin Thomas leading the way, the Yellow Jackets would love to end up victorious.
Thomas completed 11 of 24 passes for 188 yards and four touchdowns and he added 137 yards in 20 carries and a score for the Yellow Jackets to defeat Georgia Southern, 42-38, last Saturday. Surely, the Yellow Jackets pounded the ball on the ground that resulted to a dominating offensive game.
Zack Laskey rushed for 80 yards in 18 carries to compliment the performance of Thomas. Don’t forget DeAndre Smelter who had 106 yards in four receptions. What the Georgia Tech needs to do is to contain the passing game of the Hokies.
Which team would end up victorious?
