UE takes on NU for the final UAAP spot

University of the East vs National University playoff game will push through today at 4:00 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to battle for the fourth seed in the UAAP.

The University of the East Red Warriors are considered to be the hottest team in the UAAP in second round as they won 6 of 7 games. Coach Derrick Pumaren rallied his troops in this round to get back into contention. It has been an uphill battle for the Red Warriors as they positioned themselves to have a shot at the Final Four.

While UE fought back for a spot, the Bulldogs had the opportunity to be safe but they lost their previous game to the DLSU Green Archers last week. Despite of the loss, the Bulldogs would love to try again over EU.

NU defeated EU 57-55 as Alfred Aroga scored for 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. The Cameroonian drilled in the final basket with two minutes left and he altered the game tying shot of Roi Sumang. But the second round went to the Red Warriors in a 64-55 victory, even without Sumang. Charles Mammie had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Warriors.

The EU vs NU playoff game is not only about the players banging each other but this game is a coaching battle between Eric Altamirano and Pumaren. EU vs NU start time is at 4:00 PM Philippine Standard Time.

The winner of the NU vs UE game faces the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
