Gilas Pilipinas vs India in Asian Games schedule on Tuesday

The Philippine National Men’s Basketball team “Gilas Pilipinas” meet India in the Asian Games on Tuesday, at 1:00 PM, at the Hwaseong Sports Complex Gymnasium, Incheon, South Korea.

Fresh from the successful games in the recently concluded FIBA World Cup, Gilas Pilipinas are back into the court as one of the favorites to win the Gold medal in the competition. While the former Brooklyn Nets center Andray Blatche was barred from the tournament by failing to have a three-year residency, Marcus Douthit will be the replacement.

Gilas Pilipinas is filled with players who can hit outside the three-point arc. With the outside shooting of Jeff Chan, Paul Lee, Ranidel de Ocampo and Jimmy Alapag, the opponents would be seeking for the right and perfect defensive panacea. The inside presence of Douthit and June Mar Fajardo would do the damage to the opposing team. However, what concerns Gilas would be the lack of big men. Marc Pingris and Japeth Aguilar are the other players who can compete for the boards.

In the qualifying round, India drowned Palestine, 89-49, in the opener before losing to Saudi Arabia, 73-67. However, India pulled off an upset against Kazakhstan, 80-61, to advance with the record of 2-1.

Against Kazakhstan, Joginder Singh scored 25 points, 7 of 12 three pointers, and five rebounds. Surely, coach Chot Reyes would put Gabe Norwood for defense on Singh.

India is not a pushover squad. They have legitimate scorers that could overpower Gilas Pilipinas. Moreover, India went on to study the tapes of Gilas Pilipinas in the FIB World Cup, exploiting their weaknesses.

Gilas Pilipinas vs India is televised on TV5.
