Gilas Pilipinas started the basketball journey in the Asian Games by leading 50-37 at halftime against India.
With swarming defense and accurate three-pointers from Jeff Chan and LA Tenorio, Gilas Pilipinas went on into a 16-0 start. Gilas defense was so tight that the Indians couldn’t penetrate inside. Moreover, the pressure on the ball carrier of the opponents appeared to be the working strategy for coach Chot Reyes.
June Mar Fajardo leads the scoring for Gilas with 12 points. He also played with such defense as he already had two blocks. Without Andray Blatche, the Filipinos are playing extremely well with Marcus Douthit.
India pulled off a rally in the that cut the lead to five, at 24-19, in the second quarter. Gilas led the first quarter with the score of 24-15.
India has also the outside shooting through Joginder Singh as they kept on coming back at Gilas.
