Azkals vs Myanmar: Peace Cup Finals preview, kick off time

The determined Philippine Azkals takes on Myanmar (Burma) in the Peace Cup Finals tonight at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Azkals defeated Chinese Taipee, 5-1, last Wednesday to book themselves for the Peace Cup against Myanmar. The Azkals have the advantage psychologically as they won the last meetings against Myanmar, that includes a 2-0 victory in the AFF Suzuki Cup two years ago.

However, Myanmar is different now with the new Serbian coach Radojko Avramovic clling the plays. Radojko was the architect of dismantling the Azkals in the Suzuki Cup Semifinals when he was still with the Singapore team.

“I would be lying if I say there’s no extra motivation knowing coach Raddy (Avramovic) is on the other side,” said Azkals captain Rob Gier.

“It was devastating to lose in the semifinal to them two years ago, and (Avramović) was the mastermind behind their success that year. When you come up against good coaches, you always want to do well,” said Gier.

“Obviously, we’re not playing against coach Raddy, we’re playing against Myanmar and their quality players. But it would be nice to get one over him for sure,” he added.

Azkals have a new perspective because of the new coach Thomas Dooley. Dooley expressed confidence that his team would be on top after the game.

Azkals vs Myanmar kick of time is at 7:00 PM Saturday Philippine Time, 7:00 AM ET. Azkals vs Myanmar live stream is available on TFC.tv.
