John Pinto dropped the crucial three-pointer that separated Arellano University from the rampaging Jose Rizal University to increase the lead into four, 73-69, with 1:20 remaining that paved the way to capture the win 75-69 Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Pinto also was responsible for drawing an offensive foul in the following possession that ultimately denied the chances of JRU Heavy Bombers to get back into the ball game.
Dioncee Holts had 22 points and 13 rebounds to help the Chiefs to be consistent and on top at the end of the day. With the win, Arellano claimed the solo second place in the NCAA standings.
The Chiefs withstood the rally of JRU in the fourth quarter. They built an eight point buffer but the Heavy Bombers were reluctant to give up as Philip Paniamogan connected a three-pointer to cut the lead into one, 70-69, 3:05 left.
JRU Bombers had some opportunities in the last two minutes but they missed some free throws. JRU (9-5) fell to a share of fourth place with College of Saint Benilde.
