The Atlanta Falcons face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 14 at the Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio for the continuation of the NFL 2014 season.
Quarterback Matt Ryan played his best football last week against the shallow defense of the Saints to lead the Falcons in a 37-34 overtime win. Ryan completed 31 of 43 in passing for 448 yards and three touchdowns, afterwards, he became the NFC offensive player of the week. The offense was almost flawless as it accumulated a franchise record of 568 yards.
Ryan distributed his passes significantly to Jimmy Graham, with 82 yards in eight catches and Marques Colston with 110 yards in five receptions. Moreover, Brandin Cooks had seven receptions for 77 yards. These three receivers are to be tested against the much improved defense of the Bengals.
Atlanta can attack also using the ground game through Mark Ingram, who had two rushing touchdowns and 60 yards last week. With a balance offensive attack, the Falcons would have an opportunity for a great 2014 NFL start.
Cincinnati has been consistent in playing at home. Riding from an eight game winning streak at home, the Bengals would try to have a 2-0 start since 2006.
The Bengals defense that tamed the Ravens in a 23-16 victory last Sunday will be put in to a scrimmage. Will the defense of the Bengals withstand the high-octane offense of the Falcons?
In that game, quarterback Andy Dalton completed 25 of his 38 passes for 301 yards, without an interception. In the receiving, A.J. Green had 131 yards in six receptions.
Though the running game of the Bengals didn’t provide enough, averaging only 3.0 yards per carry, the Bengals won the game because of defense. However, the coaching staff might have a scheme to run through the teeth of the weak rushing defense of the Falcons.
This is a game in which two teams will battle with offense for Atlanta, while defense for the Bengals. Who would prevail?
