UAAP 77 men’s basketball tournament turns out to be wild but not complicated. Five teams are in the chase for the Final Four spots and they are also aiming at the seedings because of the twice to beat rule on the top two seeds.
Ateneo de Manila University (10-3)
The Blue Eagles are on the verge of getting back into the No 1 spot with twice to beat advantage. After disappearing on top of the playoff last season, this Kiefer Ravena-led team is just a game away on top. A win over the FEU Tamaraws will make the Blue Eagles the No 1 seed. However, a loss will take them another game for the battle for second place against the loser of De La Salle University and National University for the second place.
ADMU wins = No. 1 spot
ADMU loses = ADMU faces the winner of NU vs DLSU for the second spot
Far Eastern University (10-3)
FEU Tamaraws would give everything to be No 1. An opportunity for the Tamaraws to show to the nation that they have something special this year. The Tamaraws have the defense to topple Ravena and they have the offense to move on. A win would carry them on top, while a loss would let them meet loser of De La Salle University and National University for the second place. A better place is to pull a victory.
FEU wins = No. 1 spot
FEU loses = FEU meets the winner of NU vs DLSU for the second spot
De La Salle University (9-4)
The Green Archers are not totally in yet. They need to win to have a chance to defend their titles. Surely, the reigning UAAP champions understand the situation. The loss to the EU Red Warriors last Wednesday might be the reason why they are in this complex scenario. De La Salle will meet National University this coming Saturday to get a spot in the Final Four. A loss for the Archers would not automatically provide them the spot.
1. DLSU wins = DLSU plays the loser of ADMU vs FEU for the second spot
2. DLSU loses, EU loses = DLSU enters Final four as No 4 spot
3. DLSU loses, EU wins = DLSU plays UE for the final spot
National University (9-4)
The Bulldogs need to win the game also. It would be a great season for coach Erik Altamirano as he continues to inspire his team into winning games.
1. NU wins = NU plays the loser of ADMU for the second spot
2. NU loses, EU loses - NU enters Final Four as No 4 spot
3. NU loses, EU wins - NU plays EU for the Final Spot
University of the East (8-5)
The Red Warriors are in control of their destiny. They need to win two more games to get the final spot. Coach Derrick Pumaren knows the capability of his team to get the two wins they needed.
UE wins vs UST = UE faces the loser of DLSU vs NU game.
UE loses vs UST= UE out
