Mark Romero led St. Benilde to a come-from-behind victory 80-74 over San Sebastian College Wednesday to remain in the Final Four contention in the 90th NCAA men’s basketball tournament at Fil-oil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Romero was red hot from the field with 25 points to lead the Blazers for their eight win of the season. Paolo Taha had double double with 19 points and 11 rebound while Jonathan Grey contributed with 18 points.
San Sebastian started strong as they took the early advantage. But Benilde never gave up. Down by as much as 17 points at the first half, 40-23, Romero unleashed five three pointers to led the Blazers to fight back and became the turning point of the game.
“The guys showed heart, never panicked when we were trailing by 17 points and I have to give it to them for showing resolve,” St. Benilde coach Gabby Velasco said.
Jovit dela Cruz led San Sebastian with 21 points, big man Bradwyn Guinto had 13 and JR Perez added 13 points also for a losing effort.
St. Benilde Final four hopes stayed alive as they remain in the fifth place with an 8-5 record. While the Stags suffered their ninth straight lost and fell to 3-10.
