The Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers contained Lyceumof the Philippines University Pirates, 67-43, in the NCAA Season 90 Men’s basketball tournament Monday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
With ferocious offensive attacks, the Heavy Bombers started the game in an 18-4 score in the first quarter, and they never looked back as they controlled the entire game.
The tight defense of JRU just allowed a total of 13 points in the first and final quarter against the Pirates. It was a superb defensive performance for the Bombers anchored by Philip Paniamogan, who scored 23 points. Paniamogan also scored 4-of-7 shooting from outside the arc.
For the Pirates, Wilson Baltazar shined with 11 points.
“The players were just motivated to win the game because we lost to Lyceum in the first round,” said JRU head coach Vergel Meneses.
