No. 8 Michigan State takes on No. 3 Oregon in what is considered to be the marquee game in Week 2 of the College Football, On Saturday September 6, at 6:30 PM ET at the Autzen Stadium Eugene, OR.
Michigan State jumps into another level against a much tougher opponent in the Pac 12 North, the Oregon Ducks. This game is an early showdown of the contenders with so much interest because of its national implications. The winner of this game will live and dream to have its hope for the College Football Playoff, in which four teams are to be selected. Meanwhile, the loser would only hope that other contenders would lose at least a game each so that at the end, there’s a chance to be part of the selection.
Quarterback Connor Cook completed 12 of 13 passes for 285 yards to lead the Spartans into a 45-7 victory over FCS Jacksonville State. After the first half, Cook already took a rest. Tony Lippett had four catches for 167 yards as he became the primary receiver of the Spartans.
Michigan State offense comprises of passing through Connor and of rushing through Jeremy Langford, who rushed 13 times for 57 yards, and Nick Hill, who added 42 yards in 11 attempts.
With the offense of Michigan State working at its best, the defense is the primary weapon of the Spartans to capture the win. Even in 2013, the Spartans depended on the vaunted defense that paved the way to beat the Ohio State in the Big 10 Conference Championships.
The Oregon Ducks are highly expected to battle for the national championship spot this season. Before getting into that illusive goal, the Ducks must be chosen as the top four teams in the FBS for the playoff.
Marcus Mariota accumulated 267 yards and three touchdowns and one in rushing against South Dakota last Saturday. He did not play in the first half because Oregon already was in control of the football game.
Byron Marshall had eight catches for 138 yards and freshman Royce Freeman rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns for the Ducks.
Oregon was not bothered to rest most of the starters in preparation for the battle against Michigan State. With the rest, the players would have enough energy for this game.
