The FEU Tamaraws outplayed the National University Bulldogs in overtime, 74-70, to regain the No. 2 seed in the UAAP Season 7 on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Mac Belo maintained his composure throughout the game as scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Belo played with urgency to help his team be in the chase for the UAAP supremacy, currently with 6-2 record.
Adding to the sustained offensive attacks of the Tamaraws was the contribution of Mike Toloma who dropped 18 points. Meanwhile, Carl Bryan Cruz significantly altered the complexion of the game when he scored all his nine points in the crucial fourth quarter and overtime.
The Bulldogs pounded the ball in the third quarter to their advantage,when they got into a 19-6 run to take the lead, 46-38, with less than four minutes left in the third. Alfred Aroga scored 12 points in that run.
FEU quickly responded through the leadership of Toloma with their own 15-4 spurt. Toloma and Bello scored 15 of FEU’s 21 points in the third period alone.
For NU, Gelo Alolino continued to use his speed in getting his shots as he scored eight points in fourth quarter, that included back-to-back baskets that paved the way for NU to have a 60-59 lead.
