MANILA, Philippines – Philippine men’s national basketball team head coach Chot Reyes officially announced Rain or Shine guard Paul Lee and naturalized NBA player Andray Blatche as part of the Gilas Pilipinas Final 12 squad roster that will compete in the FIBA World Cup in Spain.
“We are tapping Paul Lee to take Larry Fonacier’s spot and Andray Blatche as our naturalized player for the World Cup. God bless us all. #PUSO,” a tweet posted by Coach Chot Reyes.
The 25-year-old Lee fills the place left by the sharp shooting Larry Fonacier who was not with the team due to injury. The six-foot guard has a good showing in the FIBA Asia Cup last month and other tune up games of Gilas Pilipinas in the road in preparing for the FIBA World Cup.
On the other hand Andray Blatche will replaced longtime naturalized player Marcus Douthit, who lead Pilipinas in a historic silver medal finished in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship, that was held in Manila.
The remaining 10 spots are composed of FIBA Asia Cup Silver Medalist mainstays led by Jayson Castro, LA Tenorio, Gary David, Jeff Chan, Jimmy Alapag, Gabe Norwood, Ranidel De Ocampo, Marc Pingris, Japeth Aguilar and June Mar Fajardo.
