Filipino boxer Randy Petalcorin won the World Boxing Association Interim World Light Flyweight title defeating Walter Tello of Panama by a knock out in the seventh round at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.
Petalcorin, a native from General Santos City with a record of 22-1-1, 16 knockouts, controlled the paced as he dominated Tello. In the seventh round, he released a left uppercut and a right hook for the first knockdown of the fight. Tello rose up and beat the ref count but a left cross after a right hook sent Tello to his second knock down. The fight was stopped shortly after.
“Dreams do come true! Randy Petalcorin is the new world champion,” said by Jim Caude Manangquil, Petalcorin’s co-promoter, on his Facebook account.
“We want Rossel,” added by Manangquil, Alberto Rossel of Peru is the current WBA Light Flyweight Champion.
