Tour De France 2017: Date, Schedule, Favorites, Chris Froome ready

Tour De France 2017 is fast approaching. The most popular cycling event in the world will start on July 1, 2017 and end on July 23.

The 2017 Tour De France covers a total of 3,540 kilometers in 21 stages in which the highest peak will be the Col du Galibier with 2,645m in ascent.

Without a doubt, the question remains on whether three-time champion Chris Froome is fit enough to race as he aims for his fourth title. Though Froome is the biggest favorite to win the Tour, some experts saw a different Froome this year because he is without a win in the pre-tour stage races like the Criterium du Dauphine. Is Froome really at the top in which he can win the Tour?

Nairo Quintana will always be the strongest challenger of Froome in the Tour de France 2017. It remains to be seen how Quintana adjusted the way he races especially when it comes to the individual time trial, which Froome dominated in the past. If Quintana can keep up in the individual time trial, then he has a chance to win. Quintana also rode in the Giro in May and it provides a question of he can win despite of spending time in Giro.

One of the cyclists who can dislodge Froome will be former Tour champion Alberto Contador. Though Contador couldn’t match the fire-power of the younger cyclists in the past three years, he still has in him the ability to win the Tour. Barring any accident, Contador will be a dark horse of this competition.

Richie Porte will also have something to prove this year after finishing fifth overall in 2016. He won the Tour de Romandie, Tour Down Under and ended up runner-up in last month’s Dauphine. Porte is a formidable contender.
