Consul Felipe F. Carino III entertained about 170 Filipino Basketball fans during the Meet and Green event that featured National Basketball Association (NBA) player from Los Angeles Lakers, Mr. Jordan Clarkson, who is a Filipino-American, held at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center in New York on Feb. 5, 2017.
The Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jordan Clarkson mainly dropped in the town to launch his Fan Experience Club, which was his first-ever NBA Presser held at the Philippine Consulate.
L.A Lakers fan, Sen Alan Peter Cayetano and and Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni Lopez Cayetano, especially attended the event to congratulated Clarkson on his success in the NBA career.
Clarkson who is 6-foo-5 remained self-conscious at the press conference, which totally contrasted to the confidence he shows in the basketball ground. Several times he also expressed his gratitude to the fans and admitted his love for adobo and sisig, to the crowd’s pleasure.
Community leader Laura Garcia called the NBA superstar at carefree yet guarded, representing Clarkson.
Garcia said –
“I was actually trying to size him up during the gathering,”
“First of all, he is very young—only 24 years old. Most young Americans I know—well, not just Americans, Filipino American young adults like him—are carefree and with an easy spirit. He seems to be a bit ‘guarded,’ no pun intended.”
Garcia however found that Clarkson’s father was more animated than Clarkson himself, but was happy about the efforts the NBA Superstar is taking for Filipino roots and being closer to fans. Clarkson was shy and it was notable!
“For someone who earns $12.5 million a year, he is not cocky and snobbish. For that, he has my support. When Michael Jordan retired, I wasn’t interested in basketball as much anymore. Let’s see if Jordan Clarkson will get my interest back in basketball,” she said.
