The University of New Mexico Lobos (8-4, 6-2 MW) will clash on the UTSA Roadrunners (6-6. 5-3 CUSA) in the 2016 College Football’s New Mexico Bowl on 17th December, Saturday at 12 p.m.
The New Mexico Lobos will be making their 4th appearance in the game that finished behind Boise State in the Mountain Division of the MWC with a record of 8-4. Lobos are victorious by nature and the team has to be given the credit for 6-2 conference record behind a high scoring offense.
Players to Watch in New Mexico Lobos:
Meanwhile, the UTSA Roadrunners have never played in a bowl game and making their first ever bowl appearance in its sixth year of existence. On an average, UNM attacked 38 points and required great support with the defense letting 32 points on 397 yards with close standard run and pass “D”. The Lobos were considered the best rushing team in the event at 361 yards. The obvious reason for this rushing squad came after a 100 yards throw. Two quarterbacks of New Mexico, Austin Apodaca and Lamar both had passed 600+ yards and Jordan moved for 658 but anything the Lobos were successful through the running of Teriyon Gipson (131-1209) and Tyron Owens (134-1084) and a trio marked 700 yards combined. You can’t miss Richard McQuarley that rushed for 588 yards, and scored 16 touchdowns for Lobos. So there’s a three spear-headed monster in New Mexico Lobos in backfield to watch out for.
Players to Watch in UTSA Roadrunners:
Players from UTSA might not be as prolific as New Mexico’s running back, still veteran Jarveon Williams and Jalen Rhodes both had remarkable seasons for the team. William drove the team with rushing 775 yards and 8 touchdowns. Rhodes rushed for 756 yards and hit 9 rushing scores. Quarterback Dalton Sturm threw 2,052 yards and 18 touchdowns while made a rushing of 263 yards and 4 additional touchdowns. UTSA are currently 5-1 ATS combining last 6 games after letting less than 275 yards in total for the previous game and considering their under is 5-1 in UTSA previous 6 games after notching more than 280 yards passing in their previous as UTSA are 5-1 ATS in last 6 games on field.
You won’t find many teams that match up to the level of New Mexico’s offense this season, as 37.8 points per game is their average record in 2016. While UTSA’s run defense has been quite good, but that’s not sufficient to stop New Mexico Lobos, somehow the game between Lobos vs. Roadrunners in Albuquerque is favourable for Lobos.
