Manila Philippines – Jeron Teng scored 10 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter to lead the De La Salle Green Archers in an 83-78 win over Far Eastern University in the UAAP men’s basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Teng delivered his best by scoring the last and final four points of the Archers to distance the gap and capture the victory. With the pressure on La Salle to convert some critical possessions as the Tamaraws cut their deficit from 16 points, trailing 62-46 in the third, into two points 77-79 with last than two minutes left after Prince Orizu delivered two free throws.
Cameroonian Ben MBala had 13 points, 23 boards and four blocks in his debut game with the Archers. After being banned for a season due to eligibility reasons, Mbala was significant in last night’s victory for the Archers.
After the game, new La Salle head coach Aldin Ayo said that it’s just the first game. He also added:
“A win is a win, but that was a hard-fought game,” said DLSU head coach Aldin Ayo. “Pero siguro kalawang. Last game namin three weeks ago, yung last tuneup namin hindi natapos. Rust factor and decision making especially on our defense and in the endgame.”
Aljun Melecio and Kib Montalbo have combined for 23 points coming from the bench.
Ron Dennison scored 13 points while Allen Trinidad added 12 points for the Tamaraws, who played without the key players in their championship run last year.
The Tamaraws evened the game at 74-all with 3:53 left. However, the Archers played it big in the final three minutes.
