Broncos beat Panthers in a 21-20 squeaker

The Denver Broncos overwhelmed the visiting Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football opening game of the NFL, 21-20, at Sports Authority Field. The Broncos captured the victory after Graham Cano missed a 50-yard field goal with four seconds left in the game.

Trevor Seimaina completed 18 of 26 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown but against an interception. In rushing, CJ Anderson rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown in 20 attempts. In receiving, Emmanuel Sanders had 49 yards in five catches while Demaryius Thomas added 48 yards in four catches.

For the second time against the Panthers, Denver’s defense was the key for the victory after they collected three sacks and eight hits on Cam Newton.

For the Panthers, Newton completed 18 of 33 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown against an interception. In rushing, Jonathan Stewart had 64 yards in 15 attempts while Newton added 54 yards and a TD in 11 attempts. In receiving, Kelvin Benjamin had 91 yards and a touchdown in six receptions.
