Patriots’ star QB Tom Brady plays but Jacob Brisset’s shines against Carolina

Jacoby Brisset completed 9 of 9 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown to lead the New England Patriots in trouncing the Carolina Panthers, 19-17, in the preseason game on Friday night.

The Patriots have improved to 3-0 in the preseason as Tom Brady debuted despite the fact that he was suspended in the first four games of the regular season. Brady threw for 76 yards and a touchdown in 3-for-9 passes. Brady entered the game from the bench in replacement of starter Jimmy Garoppolo, who completed 9 of 15 passes for 57 yards. Tyler Gaffney rushed for 35 yards in nine attempts while LeGarrette Blount added 26 yards in five attempts. In receiving Chris Hogan had 62 yards and a touchdown in five catches while Aaron Dobson added 49 yards in two catches.

For the Panthers, Cam Newton completed 13 of 29 passes for 100 yards but with two interceptions. Joe Webb threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns in 6-for-7 passes. In rushing, Cameron Artis-Payne rushed for 28 yards in nine attempts while Davin Funchess led in receiving with 49 yards in five receptions. Marcus Lucas caught two touchdowns for a total of 32 yards.
