The San Antonio Spurs have to find ways in alleviating the damage the offensive attacks of the Oklahoma City Thunder through Kevin Durant, drilling in contested shots and scoring quick baskets.
Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Spurs and the Thunder is set on Tuesday, starting time at 8:00 PM ET, at AT&T Center. This is a pivotal game and expect both teams to show forth their best basketball.
Durant took advantage of his strength and frame by scoring 41 points that impacted the outcome of Game 4. He derailed the tight defense of Kawhi Leonard just to put the Spurs in wonder on how he should be defended.
”There’s no individuals in this game, there’s no individual matchups,” Durant said. ”There’s no strictly 1-on-1 matchups in this game. There’s 10 guys on the court. I may guard a guy, or he may guard me, but it’s a whole team trying to stop the ball.”
Aside from Durant, the presence of Russell Westbrook is also a pain in the defense of the Spurs. Westbrook’s explosiveness cannot be neglected at all in today’s game. In the postseason, Westbrook is averaging 24.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 10.9 assists per game. His all around basketball game is effective against the Spurs, who look to bounce back after dropping two games already.
The Spurs have the homecourt advantage and that they have to utilize their offensive arsenal through LaMarcus Aldridge. In the first two games, Aldridge totaled for 79 points in 33 of 44 shots while he only added 44 points in 16 for 39 shooting in the past two games.
In the postseason, Aldridge averages 22.6 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Spurs. Tony Parker leads in assists with 5.6 per game. Meanwhile, Leonard averages 22.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
