Joel ‘TESDAMAN’ Villanueva inched closer in the magic 12 of the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) senatorial race survey released on February 15.
Villanueva, a former UST Tigers starting guard, is fighting one of the biggest battles of his life as he is aiming a senatorial seat in the upcoming Philippine election. The newly released SWS survey shows Villanueva jumped from 19% to 22 % while cutting his deficit into 5% to No. 10 former Akbayan Rep. Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros (27%), 4% to No. 11-12 Sen. Teofisto Guingona (26%) and 4% to No. 11-12 former senator Richard Gordon (26%) – with sampling error margins of ±3 points.
When applying the sampling error margins of ±3 points, Villanueva, Hontiveros, Guingona, Gordon and Sherwin Gatchalian are virtually tied battling for the last three seats. Though it is early to tell, it is clear that Villanueva has the momentum as the 90-day window to campaign has already started last week.
Aside from being part of the Liberal Party senatorial slate, Villanueva was endorsed by Presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago and running mate Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Sunday. The endorsement will help Villanueva to get more exposure, especially in Marcos’ bailiwick called the “Solid North”.
The question asked respondents was the same in December last year and in January: (If the election were held now, who will you likely vote as PRESIDENT, VICE-PRESIDENT, and SENATORS, of the PHILIPPINES? Here is the list of the candidates.)
Villanueva, the former Director General (with the rank of Secretary) of TESDA, will run on a platform focused on addressing pressing issues facing Filipinos today:
Dignidad (Dignity); and
