Manila, Philippines – The UST Growling Tigers delivered come-from-behind win over the FEU Tamaraws, 85-76, to capture a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoff in the UAAP Season 78 at Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday.
Karim Abdul led the way with his 23 points for the Growling Tigers to rally from a 14-point deficit early in the game. Moreover, Abdul added five rebounds and three assists to make it an all-around performance.
Aside from Abdul, Kevin Ferrer also helped the Growling Tigers with his 21 points and six rebounds while Mario Bonleon and Louie Vigil added 13 point each to complete the rally over FEU.
The Growling Tigers were in 38-24 deficit but with tremendous defense and offensive juggernaut, they tied the game at halftime with the score of 45-all.
“They were hitting their outside shots but we just kept playing our defense,” said UST head coach Bong dela Cruz.
On the other hand, Mike Tolomia scored 17 points to led the FEU Tamaraws in a losing cause. Francis Tamsi contributed 15 points, all three-pointers.
With the win, the Growling Tigers clinched at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four and improved to a 10-3 record. The Tamaraws fell to 10-2.
