Pittsburgh Steelers Rumors and news: Unavoidable maybe but Michael Vick is playing well, will he redeem himself while petition to get rid of him continues?

Michael Vick will be the starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers after Ben Roethlisberger will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a knee injury incurred in the game against the Rams. Nothing can stop Vick as of the moment and the next week except that he would play at his worst against the Ravens on Thursday.

Previous story below:

The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired and signed quarterback Michael Vick to a one-year deal Tuesday. He will be the backup quarterback for Ben Roethlisberger.

The Steelers quickly seized the opportunity and added him to the roster because of the need of a backup quarterback after Bruce Gradkowski dislocated a finger in his left hand during the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

However, the Pittsburgh fans do not like Vick at all to play for the Steelers. Within 24 hours since Vick signed, over 15,000 fans have already put their name on a petition calling for the team to remove Vick, according to media outlets.

From the petition:

Michael Vick is a convicted felon and no-class piece of crap. He is also a terrible QB which is why he has no team. Let’s united as Steeler fans – as NFL fans – and stop him from playing on our team! Steelers fans united! Sign to keep Vick from ever wearing the coveted Steelers uniform!!
As of 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, 15,463 people had signed the petition.

Numbers of fans in Pittsburgh feel that Vick hasn’t paid his debt to society, something that coach Mike Tomlin is aware of.

“You are sensitive to those potential things, but we are going to do our due diligence,” Tomlin said on Wednesday. “Rest assured that we have done that. Also, rest assured that he has done a lot since some of the things that he has gone through. His track record to this point speaks for itself.”

Will the pressure of the fans enough for the Steelers to get rid of Vick?

Our stance on Michael Vick- America has long looked at Public Figures, Celebrities & Athletes as role models. Michael Vick should not in any way be considered a role model- he has failed miserably as a role model & as a human being. Unconditional Love Foundation has received many messages & seen comments about how we should forgive Michael Vick, move on, he has paid his debt to society, he made a mistake, he is sorry etc. Sorry but we do not agree. Electrocuting, beating, drowning, shooting, hanging dogs and making dogs fight to the death for years is no mistake- it is reprehensible. Michael Vick did not make a mistake- he made a conscious decision to kill and torture dogs for his own amusement & financial gain. His only regret is getting caught. We have all seen photos & videos of Michael Vick working on his anti-dogfighting campaign, rest assured he is not doing that because he is reformed or cares about animals- it’s a PR stunt called damage control. Don’t believe me then look at the video below where someone who adopted one of Vicks dogs tries to talk to him. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I think we have made ours pretty clear. Something else we want to make clear is Unconditional Love Foundation cares about people, pets & the planet and we do not condone any acts of violence, abuse, neglect or cruelty to any living being.

Who made you or your organization Judge central? You are confusing personal issues with professional issues. We all have sinned and fallen short of what’s expected of us. A sin has not weight in Gods eyes (no matter how big or small) it is the same. How do you call yourself Unconditional Love…? Unconditional Love cannot be achieved in life relationships without accepting people as they are with mistakes and faults. No one is saying that you have to like what he did. But I would say get over it, Move on. He has paid his debt. Find something else or someone else to condemn. Perhaps start by looking in the mirror.
Michael is a talented football player, and you not liking him can’t change that!!!

It’s a moral thing, I think is where they were going with that. How can you sign such a monster knowing good and well that children look up to your players? What kind of example does that set for our kids? It’s okay if you want to run a heinous dog fighting operation, you’ll still be rewarded handsomely. I feel the same way about it as I do with Ray Rice. If you don’t want to suffer the consequences of your actions, start making better decisions. In the end it’s a matter of opinion, and we’re all entitled to ours.

First of all i love animals and football. Isn’t the golden rule forgive but don’t forget, the man has a family you all hurt as well by not forgiving Vick! He hasn’t repeated his offense so all the hateful people should be ashamed and you shall be judged for not only hurting Vick but his children and family and trying to trip up a persons life.

I’m from Pittsburgh. I am sickened that the Steelers would lower their standards so grossly to sign that dirtbag. Sell him to the Raiders and pick up one of the Eagles extras

Remember who we are. The fans of the greatest football franchise. The Steelers are not just great because they have won the most Super Bowls, They have owners with a great reputation and a lot of respect from around the football world. True Steeler fans know we have a reputation of not keeping players or recruiting players based only on talent but character also. I would be amazed if even a small percentage of the people who signed the petition really know the whole Michael Vick story. Steeler fans have to stick with their team not go against it. We must trust the owners, management, and coaches to have done a complete check on Vick and if they feel he deserves to be looked at as the man he is today not in the past we as fans need to do the same. Remember the great saying from a very wise man, “He who has no sin throw the first stone”

Bruce, what you all must understand is all of the hatred has brought us to this point, the universe has spoken, now you must watch Mike Vick play, and if you’ll release your anger , perhaps we can win, but if it continues our team is doomed, I have been a steeler for 42 years, and watched as a kid Joe Gilliam get ostracized and guess what, we couldn’t win, until it stopped.

I have been a Steeler Fan since I was 5yrs old. I have also said plenty of times that I love animals more than people. When I heard the very disappointing news that the Steelers signed Mike Vick…I was devastated, I don’t know how to express the disappointment I feel as a Steeler Fan.
    Always a Steeler Fan
Definitely not a Mike Vick fan 🙁

I think the reaction regarding Vick is very sad. This man grew up in the type of environment that condoned what he did. He was caught, went to jail, lost most of his money, and went to JAIL once released from jail he has done everything he can to correct the mistakes he made; just ask the Humane Society and the SPCA; by going to schools and telling kids what he did was wrong. Everyone deserves a second change, give the man a break! Now if he looses the game that’s different!!

I wonder, do the Steelers really want a stupid, low class person like Michael Vick as a team mate? He is like a mad dog. You never know when will put a knife in your back. Good luck with that boys!!!

He made a mistake! Are you kidding me? He’s a grown man who knew exactly what he was doing and kept doing it for monetary gain until he got caught. I am very disappointed the Steelers’ management team chose this man as Big Ben’s back up QB. It sends a terrible message to our youth, and haven’t we had enough of that in the NFL lately? If you are privileged enough to wear the uniform, then you should be held accountable when you break the rules. End of story! It’s insane that owners/managers continue to coddle and baby these people for the sake of the almighty dollar. Vick is only going to put a black mark on this great team’s reputation. I say he should go.

      September 15, 2015 at 7:21 pm

Exactly! And he even said HIMSELF that the only reason he stopped was because he got caught, and he would still probably be doing it had he not! He’s a psychopath, and I am certainly thankful I wasn’t a fan before this. I would hate to have to burn all of my stuff.

It is amazing, How many of you supposed Steelers fans are just racist and think you have a soapbox to stand on when you don’t. Your starting QB Big Ben Rothenberger, Has been accused of raping women not once not twice but three times. Yet you racist dog loving white people ( and most of you in the above article are white), failed put your 15,000 names on a petition calling for the team to remove Ben Roethlisberger. I value Humans over dogs, and animals and I like dogs, and most of you do also, if not take that package of hamburger or pork out of your shopping cart. Mike vick did some incredibly stupid things see https://chrisdurant2000.wordpress.com/2011/01/02/michael-vick-was-wrongly-convicted/ for more information) But it irks you racist white dog loving Steelers fans to your soul that Mike Vick will get a chance in your town with your team. The man served his time in prison it’s over He will play in the NFL again and make a lot more money than you do. Do what you always tell Black people to do with the horrendous crimes of slavery,Systemic racism and the killing of unarmed Blacks by the police Get Over It !!! P.S. Maybe God put Big Ben Rothenberger and Mike Vick one the same team for a good reason. to reflect your racism.

Its amazing Jay that angry people like you are so blinded by race and hate that you completely miss the point of the petitioners. You sir are the racist here. And i suspect that you are not a Steeler fan therefore you know nothing about the relationship between a small market team, its fans, and it’s iconic first owner.

There are many black and mixed raced, present and former Steelers that are beloved by all fans including whites, Maybe i should name a few to educate you. Maybe your 12 years old and know nothing of this team. Franco , Rod Woodson, Mel Blount, and dozens more that we are proud of.

Black or white doesn’t matter. The point is we don’t want a animal killing psychopath to represent our city , our team. The atrocities Vick committed are the same crimes that serial killers in training commit.

If you have the heart to do what Vick did. I feel sorry for you.

Michael Vick has paid for his crime of transporting across the state lines by going to prison. He did not go to prison for dog-fighting. He was fined heavily, and is an advocate for the ASPCA against dog fighting. He is a great QB, and deserves a chance to play since that is his chosen vocation. Give him the chance and stop whining. I’ll watch the Steelers if he plays for them, just as I did the Eagles. Quite frankly, I wish he would come back to the Atlanta Falcons.

Jenna are you a White person, who is a dog owner? Is your greatest fear in life that Mike Vick after the game, will come to your house and Kill fifi and fido. Tim Allen Was a Convicted Drug Dealer who was facing life in prison, Before Becoming famous. …www.todayifoundout.com/ Go protest Tim Allen, and go look in one of the Mirrors in your house, thats the ignorant person we need to worry about. Tim went to prison, and did his time, and moved on with his life, but I guess that is reserved only for white people, ya know the second chance thing.
    Get over it!

Steve, you’re the one blinded by race and hate, that you completely miss the point, the petitioner’s have no point. I’m not afraid to call you out on your hypocritical stance. I am not angry, but you are a White Man who will never forgive Michael Vick, because it irks you to your soul that this Black Man, who Killed dogs is on our football team. But it’s ok for Big Ben Rothenberger, White QB, white Man, to rape women. The truth is you care more about dogs than you do Black people. I’m sure you think it’s ok for unarmed Black people to be killed by the very ones sworn to protect them. I don’t think you did any protesting for the unarmed Black people that lost their lives to law enforcement officers did you? But let it be a dog, let’s call the Army, the Navy, and the Marines. It’s ok for Tim Allen, a Convicted Drug Dealer who was facing life in prison, to get a second chance, but not Mike Vick. and don’t even pull the black on black crime issue because everyday in cities across the country, people die at the hands of white people. What’s more, they’re killing their own kind. According to the US Department of Justice statistics, 84 percent of white people killed every year are killed by other whites. In 2011, there were more cases of whites killing whites than there were of blacks killing blacks. Between 1980 to 2008, a majority (53.3 percent) of gang-related murders were committed by white people, with a majority of the homicide victims being white as well. see http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kerry-coddett/white-on-white-crime-an-u_b_6771878.html for more information. Mike Vick was tried convicted and went to jail. If he does it again lock his ass up again. But you steve, get a hotdog and coke and sit your ass down, and watch the game or not, turn your TV off if it irks you to much that Mike Vick is on your team. You get an opinion Steve, but you have no right deny a person the right to earn a living after that person has paid his debt to society period.

We here in the Orlando area and now in Tampa have a puppy named Khalessi who was used as bait for the Dog Fighting Club that Michael Vick espoused.

The poor puppy was actually pregnant AND HAD HER UPPER JAW/NOSE CUT OFF.

THANKS TO THE A LOVELY LADY WHO IS INVOLVED WITH PASSION 4 PITS RESCUE CAME TO RESCUE KHALESSI AND TOOK HER BACK TO TAMPA WHERE A DR KERRI UTILIZED HER SURGERY SKILLS AND FASHIONED A NOSE SO THE POOR DOG COULD SMELL AND BE ABLE TO EAT.

WHEN YOU SEE WHAT KHALESSI LOOKS LIKE NOW IT IS A MIRACLE.

BUT YOU HAVE TO A VIDEO SHOT BT A MELANIE MICHAELS FROM WPXI -TAMPA AND TEARS WILL FLOW FROM THE EYES FROM ANY COMPASSIONATE HUMAN BEING.

BLOOD WAS LITERALLY SHOOTING FROM MY EYES AFTER SEEING THE VIDEO DEPICTING WHAT MICHAEL VICK TYPE PEOPLE DID TO THIS POOR DOG.

YOU FOLKS IN PITTSBURGH ARE LOOKING FOR A WOMAN WHO DROPPED OFF A LITTLE TERRIER THAT WAS BADLY ABUSED AND ULTIMATELY HAD TO BE EUTHANIZED.

PEOPLE WHO VIEWED THIS STORY COMMENTED THAT SHE WAS PROBABLY MICHAEL VICK’S MOTHER.

YES THIS WOMAN WAS BLACK AND THE PEOPLE IN THE ORLANDO AREA WHERE KHALESSI WAS FOUND IS PREDOMINANTLY BLACK.

LET MICHAEL VICK COME DOWN TO TOWNE CARE V.H. AND BE A SPOKESPERSON IN BEHALF OF KHALESSI AND MAYBE HE MIGHT FIND IT IN HIS HEART TO MAKE A DONATION TO THE HOSPITAL AND TO STEFANIE C/O PASSION 4 PITS RESCUE – ST PETERSBURG, FL.

DO THAT AND AS A LIFE LONG STEELER FAN WHO HAD THE PLEASURE OF HAVING DAN ROONEY SPEAK AT A REGIONAL CREDIT MANAGER’S GATHERING I WOULD BE WILLING TO GO ALONG WITH MIKE TOMLIN’S MISGUIDED DECISION TO BRING VICK INTO THE STEELER FAMILY.

AND TO THOSE WHO THINK THAT IT WAS OK FOR BIG BEN TO DO WHAT HE DID TO SEVERAL WOMEN IS NO DIFFERENT THAN WHAT TAMPA NOW HAS ITS QUARTERBACK.

The NFL known also as the National Felon League is a money making machine that has utilized the popularity of football and the likes those now bronzed in Canton, Ohio

It was Coach Chuck Noll who once coined the phrase that “a criminal element existed in the game with particular reference to the Oakland Raiders clotheslined Lynn Swan.

That was back in the ’70’s and we can fast forward to today and that same element is out on the field today and in the public domain.

It took a video depicting Ray Rice’s knocking out his wife for fans and regular to become incensed to the point where a Commissioner who earns Forty Million had to correct his previous slap on the wrist penalty.

AGAIN I CALL UPON ALL STEELER FANS TO GOOGLE KHALESSI AND OR WPXI AND VIEW THAT VIDEO SHOWING THIS BEAUTIFUL PUPPY CRAWLING AROUND DUE TO HER LEGS AND HIND QUARTERS WERE BROKEN IN THE SAME MANNER DESCRIBED BY REPORTS IN THE MICHAEL VICK DOG ABUSE CASE.

AND PLEASE TO THOSE STEELER FANS WHO SAY VICK MADE A MISTAKE AND HE PAID FOR HIS CRIME.

WHAT HE PLEAD GUILTY TO WAS LYING TO AUTHORITIES ABOUT THE WHOLE DOG FIGHTING SCENARIO.

THE MARK OF A MAN WOULD BE FOR VICK TO INSERT HIMSELF IN THE KHALESSI CASE AND DECRYING SUCH ANIMAL CRUELTY.

DO THAT AND STEELER FANS WOULD GIVE VICK THAT SECOND CHANCE.

BIG BEN CHANGED HIS MISGUIDED WAYS WHEN HIS FATHER HAD A FATHER TO SON CONVERSATION. THAT AND GETTING MARRIED AND NOW RAISING TWO CHILDREN HAS HIM ACTING AS A RESPONSIBLE ADULT.
