Dallas Cowboys Rumors: RB Darren McFadden wins as starter, Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson stays with Vikings?

The Dallas Cowboys are full of surprises. They decided not to draft a runningback in the recently concluded NFL Draft, paving the way for Darren McFadden to be a starter in the upcoming season. While McFadded is currenly the primary running back, Adrian Peterson will not go away.

Clearly, McFadden is one of the winners of the NFL draft because he doesn’t have anybody in the roster with a bigger name than him to occupy the runningback starting position of the Cowboys. McFadden has the opportunity to enhance his skills with the Cowboys. Though he has a shaky start as a pro with the Raiders, McFadden will be given the time to show forth his strength.

The Cowboys have placed all their expectations in the shoulders of McFadden by not picking a running back that would compete with him. Jerry Jones believe that McFadden has the ability to lead the team like the way DeMarco Murray, who was let go, did last season that brought them into the playoffs.

McFadden will play with Joseph Randle, Ryan Williams and Lance Dunbar at the backfield. Jones believes that the team’s backfield is enough to fill in the shoe left by Murray. McFadden, a seven-year veteran, has 1,038 career carries; the other three have a combined 243.

“We would have liked to have drafted a running back, but at the same token, we didn’t think at any given time that we should pass at the player that was there, even with the running backs available,” Jones said, through the team’s official website.

“They’re an amazing group, and it’s really understood that they do everything together,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “They lift together, they run together, and literally they hang out together 24 hours a day. I really believe that helps us as a unit. It certainly helps us as a football team”.

While the Cowboys felt they have enough at the running back position, the rumor about Adrian Peterson will not go away. Surely, if there’s a way for the Cowboys to acquire Peterson in cheaper trade, then the Cowboys will pull the trigger. As of now, the Vikings love to keep Peterson while the Cowboys do not want to give a lot to get him.
