San Antonio Spurs free agency News and Rumors: forward David West in a minimum salary, to play with LaMarcus Aldridge

The San Antonio Spurs are on the verge of having David West as additional inclusion of the already powerhouse roster. According to a person with knowledge of the deal told Associated Press that the veteran is sacrificing millions just to get a NBA ring, and no other place to explore that but with the Spurs, who just got LaMarcus Aldridge.

Coming from the Indiana Pacers, West will take a minimum salary contract worth $1.4 million to join the San Antonio Spurs. West will not take the $12 million supposed to be contract with the Indiana Pacers just to get a shot at the ring in his 13th NBA Season.

He will join Aldridge and Kahwi Leonard as the players who just got new contracts. The deal cannot be signed until Thursday. With West in the roster, the Spurs are now the big contenders in the West.

West averaged 11.7 points last season on 47.1 percent shooting, in addition to pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game.

Sources said the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards all offered West more money, but he’s made it clear in recent days his desire to join a contender.

“At this point in my career, it’s all about winning,” West said during a recent interview with WTHR-TV in Indianapolis. “And again, I don’t want to be in a position where we’re just fighting to make the playoffs. I want to be in a spot where we can legitimately taste the Finals.”
