2015 Women’s World Cup Scores and Results: USA beats Australia

Megan Rapinoe scored two goals, in the 12th and 78th minutes, and Christen Press made the other goal to help the United States in outlasting Australia, 3-1, in Group D of the Women’s World Cup.

Megan Rapinoe made the first goal for the Americans in the 12th minute but Lisa De Vanna of Australia tied the game in the 27th minute in the Women’s World Cup 2015.

The Women’s World Cup 2015 kicks off today in Canada and one of the biggest games is the match between USA and Australia.

The United States National Soccer team starts its quest for a third World Cup title today when the Americans face the Australian at 7:30 PM ET.

It’s the first game for both the Australians and Americans and it would be expected to grab the attention of the soccer world. The USWNST is ranked second in the world while Australia is 10th. The United States and Australia are in Group D.

The United States may have played great in the Olympics but the World Cup is a different tournament in which it eluded the Americans to win a championship since 1999. In 2011, the Americans suffered a heart-breaking loss in penalty shootouts against Japan, who rallied from behind twice for an upset.

Surely, the US soccer team have not the same roster that won the London Olympics, it has the capability of winning games. As a matter of fact, the Americans are considered to be the best in Group D, which is considered a “Group Death”, with other top 10 teams like Australia and Sweden.

Coach Jill Ellis has to make the best of the roster to defeat the Australians. In the Women’s World Cup 2015, two teams will advance from each group, while the best third place teams qualify for the Round of 16, which is expanded to 24 teams. Ellis has to be significantly involve in her players, especially on goalkeeper Hope Solo who was involved in a domestic violence incident. Solo continues to be one of the key elements for the success of the US Women’s soccer team.

Meanwhile, Australia has the roster to overpower USA in today’s World Cup game. The Australians reached the quarterfinals in the last two World Cup. Coach Alen Stajcic has to make the right decisions to substantiate the roster in derailing the the United States.

Australia has forward Lisa De Vanna to rely on. As a matter of fact, she scored her 35th international goals, a team high.

“I’m excited, I think I’m excited because of the circumstances at a World Cup, against the U.S., against a big team and a team we haven’t won against before” De Vanna said, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. “Just the sentiment of it. I’m always looking to the next game and striving for me so the whole situation and the hype about it is what makes it exciting.”
